2025 Formula 1 World Championship
Hungarian Grand Prix
Hungaroring
Sunday, 3 August 2025
After missing out on a podium finish at the recent Belgian Grand Prix, four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen will set his sights on winning the
Hungarian Grand Prix this Sunday.
With only two wins to his name this season, Verstappen could only manage P4 during the last race while Charles Leclerc remained out of reach throughout the afternoon.
Despite gaining on Leclerc on a few occasions after switching to slicks as the rain decreased, Verstappen suffered with reduced straight line speed given their new downforce set-up.
Reflecting on his race, Verstappen explained that he could not match Leclerc’s pace on ‘every lap’.
“We went onto the slick tyres and to be honest, every lap, I just felt that Charles was pulling away a little bit,” Verstappen mentioned.
“Then he had one mistake where I think he lost about one-and-a-half seconds. That’s why it looked like I was back in the fight, but realistically, I never really felt I was in that fight.
“Of course, I always try to get into the fight, but today, partly because of the rear wing that we chose because we hardly did any wet laps in the end which generally, I think is a shame. I think we could have gone racing.”
Verstappen will head into the Hungarian Grand Prix in third place on the Driver’s standings (185 points), while Red Bull are fourth on the Constructor’s list with 192 points to their name.
