2021-22 Premier League season

13 August 2021 – 22 May 2022

The 2021-22 Premier League season will run from 13 August of this year to 22 May of the next and will see the three promoted teams – Norwich City, Watford and Brentford – all looking to secure survival and consolidate their place in the English top flight.

Norwich, the Championship title winners last term, have retained much of the same team that did duty in the Premier League in 2019-20. Manager Daniel Farke will be tasked with ensuring the Canaries do not fall away as they did the last time they appeared in the elite division, and he believes greater experience will benefit them.

“I think as a group we are much better prepared, but also as a club. The situation two years ago, what was possible in terms of spending money and, in terms, of signings was not on a level of what we have now,” explained Farke.

“Of course, it will always be for a club like us hard work to establish ourselves on this level. Let’s be honest, we are the only self-funding club on this level, and it is unbelievably tricky, but my gut feeling is we have a much better chance in comparison to two years ago.”

Watford, under manager Xisco Munoz, will be hoping to re-establish themselves as one of the Premier League’s mid-table regulars, and signings such as Danny Rose and promising Nigerian attacker Emmanuel Dennis suggest an exciting time ahead for the Hornets.

"I think this season is going to be exciting. I spoke to the people upstairs and they’re looking to make additions to the squad. I have no worries about where the club’s going to be and I’m over the moon and raring to go,” said Rose, who joined from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Brentford, meanwhile, are the true rookies of the trio. The London club won promotion via the playoffs to earn a spot in the Premier League for the first time (and their first season in the top flight of English football for more than 70 years) but they have a style of play and sophisticated recruitment that suggests they could make an impressive impact.

“It’s going to be extremely important that we stick to that and I’m not in doubt that we will,” manager Thomas Frank said. “We will be calm with a clear strategy. Going into the Premier League we will see what happens. We will be calm.”

He added, “There should be a lot of clubs out there dreaming. Everything is possible if you work hard, have a clear strategy, togetherness, and then everything is achievable in the world.”
