The latest installment of El Clasico promises to be another pulsating contest between Spain's two biggest clubs as Real Madrid and Barcelona lock horns at the Bernabeu on Sunday, October 26.
Last season's two
La Liga meetings produced no less than 11 goals which saw Barca come out on top on both occasions, winning 4-0 in the corresponding fixture and 4-3 at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
There is certainly no shortage of goals in this match-up as the last five encounters have delivered an average of 4.4 goals, with the Blaugrana boasting three wins to Los Blancos' two.
Real are leading the way in La Liga this season, having won their opening seven games before neighbours Atletico Madrid ended their perfect run in stunning fashion by running out 5-2 victors at the Metropolitano.
Xabi Alonso's side have responded well to that setback, however, beating Villarreal (3-1) and Getafe (1-0) to go two points clear at the league summit.
The defending champions also reacted positively to seeing their unbeaten start halted by Sevilla (a 4-1 win) on October 5 as they bounced back with a 2-1 success against Girona in a Catalan derby.
Hansi Flick's side had dropped just two points from their previous seven outings and they're within touching distance of their arch-rivals in second place.
Alonso will be hoping that Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe can make a similar impact against Barca after the duo impressed at Getafe.
"Vini Jr. had a big impact. We talked this morning about how he could be important from the start or later on. He caused problems for the opposition and drew cards from them," the Spaniard said.
"It's important for everyone to know that they can be important whatever their role, and today Vini Jr. was important.
"We're very pleased with how Kylian is doing. He's been decisive with his goals and his involvement. Goals give you points, but we need everyone because there's a lot going on in the background."
Flick is optimistic that Ronald Araujo's dramatic stoppage-time winner against Girona will raise the morale of the team after admitting they're not firing on all cylinders just yet.
"We fought to win and I hope this victory gives us confidence for the coming games," the German said.
"This goal should give us wings, because we're not playing as well as last season. We're top (until Real played), and that's a good situation."
