Alongside the likes of Rory Mcllroy and Scott Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick will enter the Tour Championship as one of the players to beat this week, while he reserved criticism of the PGA Tour playoff formats.
Sitting at fourth position on the World Ranking, the 31-year-old is regarded as one of the hardest working players this season after featuring in numerous tournaments without let up.
Fitzpatrick emerged victorious on two occasions in 2026 so far, namely at the RBC Heritage and the Valspar Championship.
The Englishman was equally impressive at the Players Championship and RBC Canadian Open, where he finished as the runner-up in both tournaments.
A T3 position at the Genesis Scottish Open, coupled with a fourth placed finish at the Travelers Championship rounded off a largely prolific year for the Brit.
However, as an active player, Fitzpatrick lamented the playoffs format on the tour, with 30 of the best now being rounded off at the Tour Championship.
“I’ve said it a lot about the playoffs, I understand the playoffs in the US are a very big thing in other sports, and it’s obviously hard to do that with golf because of the format of golf,” Fitzpatrick said.
“I think the player who has played the best all year from January to next week deserves to be the FedExCup champion, the guy who has made the most points, which, you know, is going to be Scottie Scheffler pretty much.”
