Aryna Sabalenka will look to become the first woman since Serena Williams to win three consecutive US Open titles.

What to know about Sabalenka

The Belarusian star has collected 24 WTA singles titles throughout her career, including four Grand Slam crowns—the 2023 and 2024 Australian Opens

Sabalenka also boasts back-to-back US Open titles, multiple WTA 1000 events, and has spent extensive time as world No. 1.

News

Sabalenka’s most recent appearance was at the 2026 Cincinnati Open, where Sara Bejlek defeated her in the round of 16 (fourth round) on 20 August.

Currently ranked world No. 1, she holds a narrow lead over Elena Rybakina and will be defending 2,000 ranking points in New York.

Why Sabalenka could win the US Open

Sabalenka has established clear dominance at the US Open, winning the title in both 2024 and 2025, and no other active player matches her recent success on these hard courts,

The 28-year-old's powerful baseline game, strong serving and proven ability to peak in New York make her the player to beat as she chases a historic three-peat.

Quotes

“You can look at this like you’re defending something, but to be honest, you have the target on your back," Sabalenka said ahead of the 2026 US Open.

"Everyone wants to beat you, but I feel it’s the same if you’re No. 1, No. 2, No. 10. It doesn’t really matter what’s the ranking anyway when you go out there on the court — everyone wants to beat you.  I love having the target on my back.

"I like to see the young generation looking up to me and get inspired by me, but I also feel they will get inspired if I drop in the ranking a little bit. Hopefully it will never happen. As long as I focus on developing myself as a player and a person, ranking doesn’t really matter.”
