2019/20 German Bundesliga

57th Season

Matches Played: 306
Goals Scored: 982

Poland international Robert Lewandowski was the catalyst for Bayern Munich breaking the 100-goal mark this past season.

The lethal marksman remarkably hit the back of the net 34 times in 31 matches as his exploits inspired Bayern to the 2019/20 Bundesliga title.

Lewandowski notched the fourth-best scoring campaign in the league's history with his 34 goals which earned him the Golden Boot award.

Bundesliga legend Gerd Muller has achieved higher totals (three times) in the 1969/70 (38 goals), 1971/72 (40 goals) and 1972/73 (36) seasons.

This means Lewandowski has recorded the best season ever by a non-German in the Bundesliga according to the league's official website.

"To score 34 goals in one Bundesliga season is an incredible achievement. Only Der Bomber Gerd Müller has ever scored more goals in one campaign."

"I'd like to congratulate and thank Robert Lewandowski. He is the best centre-forward in the world," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in praise of Lewandowski.

Renowned for his positioning, technique and finishing, Lewandowski had a great start to the season as he was simply unstoppable in front of goal for the Bavarians.

Lewandowski became the first player to score on each of the first 11 matchdays of a season (15 goals) as he sent an early warning to Golden Boot hopefuls in the competition.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker, who is widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation, is also the first person to net in 11 straight Bundesliga games.

Nicknamed 'The Body' due to his muscular frame, Lewandowski found the back of the net against 16 of Bayern’s 17 league opponents.

As a result, the Body equalled the record held by Bayern icon Muller and retired Brazilian striker Ailton, who achieved this feat during his days with Werder Bremen between 1998 and 2004.

Lastly, Lewandowski has scored 162 of his 236 Bundesliga goals wearing Bayern colours having joined the German football powerhouse from Dortmund in 2014.

He equalled Rummenigge's tally as Bayern's second-best Bundesliga goalscorer (162) and only Muller (365) has scored more goals.
