While Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas finished third following an entertaining race that took place on the Bahrain International Circuit.

Hamilton, who has won a joint-record seven World Drivers' Championship titles (tied with Michael Schumacher), wanted to prove his critics wrong in Bahrain.

“There are always opportunities to prove people wrong and today is definitely one of them,” Hamilton said.

“There have been many in the past and I hope there are many in the future to be able to show what I was able to do today.

"We don’t have the fastest car at the moment, that’s all good for me. I don’t mind having to pull out extra in order to make the difference.”

Mercedes are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they were followed by Red Bull Racing-Honda and McLaren-Mercedes respectively.
