Juventus could take another major step towards reclaiming the Scudetto in Italy when they welcome Frosinone to the Allianz Stadium for their
Serie A match-up on Friday.
Saturday will see the eagerly anticipated clash between AC Milan and Atalanta, in 4
th and 5
th place respectively, as the race for European places heats up.
JUVENTUS VS FROSINONE – ALLIANZ STADIUM, TURIN
Juventus have won just one of their last three matches in all competitions – a run which began with a 3-0 Coppa Italia defeat at Atalanta before twice letting a two-goal lead slip from their grasp as they drew 3-3 with Parma. Cristiano Ronaldo’s 18
th league goal of the campaign helped restore some parity to L Bianconeri as they eased past Sassuolo 3-0 on Sunday.
Frosinone are Serie A’s lowest scoring side in 2018/19 with just 17 goals to their name from 23 matches played. Only two teams have conceded more than their grand total of 43 - both Empoli and Chievo are currently in the relegation zone either side of Frosinone in 19
th place.
The Old Lady are seeking a fifth victory in six against Frosinone on Friday. The pair first met in Serie B back in 06/07 after Juve were relegated from the top-flight following the nationwide match-fixing scandal. Cristiano Ronaldo and Federico Bernadeschi left it late last time these two teams faced, both finding the scoresheet in a 2-0 win earlier in September – the most freqeuent scoreline between Juventus and Frosinone.
The Canarini’s solitary point against Juventus came in the corresponding fixture last season after Leonardo Blanchard’s stoppage equaliser earned a share of the spoils for the visitors following Simone Zaza’s opener for the hosts.
ATALANTA VS AC MILAN – STADIO ATLETI AZZURRI D’ITALIA
Atalanta are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions, scoring an astounding 24 goals in the process at an average of 3 per game. Duvan Zapata scored the winner against SPAL on Sunday – the Colomobian’s 16
th goal of the season helping to complete a 2-1 turnaround for the hosts.
AC Milan booked their place in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia with an impressive 3-0 win over Napoli at the end of January. Gennaro Gattuso’s men then drew 1-1 with Roma before a 3-0 win against Cagliari on Sunday kept them just a point clear of this weekend’s opponents ahead of what is expected to be a monstrous affair.
La Dea are unbeaten in their last seven Serie A matches against the Rossoneri – drawing five and winning two. The last two meetings between them to be played at the Stadio Atleti Azzuri d’Italia have both ended all square at 1-1.
The corresponding match last season saw a red card apiece as Rafael Toloi was ejected for the hosts before Ricardo Montilivo followed suit barely 10 minutes later. Emiliano Rugani’s 91
st minute goal saw Atalanta snatch a 2-2 draw when they played in the reverse fixture at the San Siro back in September.
