The Red Devils have fallen three points behind league leaders Manchester City following a 0-0 draw at Arsenal this past weekend. The result, which extended their unbeaten run away from home to a club-record 18 matches, was preceded by a 2-1 loss to bottom-placed Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

"We come away with a clean sheet and we had good chances," said United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the aftermath at Emirates Stadium.

"We need to get our forwards firing again. That's the next step now. We need to be more clinical and get them going again."

Southampton have suffered three defeats on the trot following a 1-0 win over Liverpool to start the year. The Saints lost to Leicester City, Arsenal and most recently Aston Villa to fall down to 11th on the league standings.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani (two) led United to a 3-2 comeback win over the Saints at St Mary's earlier this season. Goals from Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse had given Southampton a comfortable lead at the break.

Michael Obafemi scored a 90th minute equaliser for the Saints in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford last season.
