Matchday 34
Real Madrid v Celta Vigo

Santiago Bernabéu Stadium
Madrid, Spain
Sunday, 4 May 2025
Kick-off is at 13:00

In a bid to keep fighting for the La Liga title, Real Madrid will have to put their Copa del Rey disappointment aside when they host Celta Vigo on Sunday afternoon, 4 May.

Los Blancos are coming off the back of a cup final loss to their bitter rivals Barcelona, and now will turn their full attention on the league as they sit in second position, for points off of first place.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti is under immense pressure after bowing out of the UEFA Champions League, and now the Copa del Rey loss. According to reports, the Italian tactician might be on his way out soon.

Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger is under scrutiny for his actions in the team’s last match for throwing an object, which is believed to be an ice cube at the referee.

He has since apologised for his transgression. "There's definitely no excuse for my behaviour," Rudiger posted on an Instagram story.

"I'm very sorry for that. Sorry again to the referee and to everyone I have disappointed."

Federico Valverde has been one of the team’s best players this season, but was unfortunately unable to make an impact in the team’s disappointing cup final loss.

“It happened again. And it will surely happen many more times, because it is the path we are building and it is normal for one to fall after so many kilometres. It saddens me, it makes me angry, helpless. I feel that I failed them. It’s been a complicated year, physically and mentally very hard, but one day I was clear; ‘until my legs don’t give me anymore’,” he said in a statement on social media.

“This club deserves nothing less. We will return, we will continue and I will be there leaving everything for the respect that Real Madrid, its people and everything that comes with playing in the most winning team in history.”
