2025-26 Spanish La Liga

Matchday 30

Getafe v Athletic Bilbao

Estadio Coliseum

Getafe, Spain

Sunday, 5 April 2026

Kick-off is at 13h00

Getafe will look to ramp up the pressure on their Europe-chasing rivals when they entertain Athletic Bilbao at the Coliseum on Sunday, April 5 in the early kickoff.

The Azulones have made a concerted effort to challenge for a top-six finish in the last two months after capitalising on the poor form of the teams around them in the table.

Jose Bordalas' side endured a mini slump in December and January, but have won five of their last eight games to emerge as contenders for the UEFA Conference League at least.

A 2-1 win against Espanyol on March 21 took the Madrid outfit level with Real Sociedad (7th) and Athletic (9th) on 38 points, leaving them just three shy of Celta Vigo (6th) in eighth place.

The Lions are somehow still in the mix despite a horrendous season and winning just four of their 11 matches in 2026.

Ernesto Valverde's side arrested a three-game winless run with a 2-1 triumph over Real Betis on March 22 to keep pace with Getafe and close right up on Sociedad.

Athletic's struggles were highlighted by a 1-0 loss to the Azulones in the reverse fixture on October 10, having not been beaten by them in 10 outings.

Valverde admitted the three-point haul against Betis did wonders for morale after the disappointment in Girona and hopes the result will give them impetus for the final two months of the campaign.

"It was so important to win," he said. "Anyone who was at the ground knows just how much we needed this. We focused on that, and the points taste even better than you can imagine.

"This match was important for many reasons: the poor result in Girona, the need to rediscover our intensity and drive, and the need for points.

"There's still a long way to go, but going into the break on a high note is brilliant for tackling what remains. It's just three more points, but they mean a lot."
