San Antonio Spurs will be looking to get back to some consistency when the Dallas Mavericks visit the Frost Bank Center on the morning of Sunday, February 8.
The Spurs entered the new year with a record of 23-9, but they've already lost seven games in 2026 to allow the Denver Nuggets (3rd) and Houston Rockets (4th) to gain ground on them in the Western Conference.
Mitch Johnson's team returned to winning ways against Orlando Magic on February 2, with Victor Wembanyama starring in the 112-103 victory after posting 25 points, eight rebounds, five blocks and four steals.
Johnson hailed the reaction from his players after their 111-106 loss to Charlotte Hornets and a delay in their travel plans due to a storm which brought heavy snow.
"Heck of a response from those guys and they've proven that quite a bit this year and that's why we have the pit in the stomach, the fire in the belly and the hole in the heart at times," Johnson said.
"Because when we don't play to that standard and what they've shown they're capable of, it's maddening and that's the forever-ending battle that we will win. But very pleased with the effort and the response and the tone set by quite a few guys, and the defense in the second half was nails."
The Mavs have continued to struggle this term in the absence of Luka Doncic, who was traded to Los Angeles Lakers a year ago.
Jason Kidd's team still managed to qualify for the play-in tournament where they lost to Memphis Grizzlies in the second game, but they've got some work to do this season to finish in the top 10.
Dallas are on a four-game skid after they lost 111-107 to Houston Rockets on February 1, placing them 12th in the West with a record of 19-30.
Cooper Flagg impressed again, recording 34 points and 12 rebounds just one game after the 19-year-old rookie set the NBA record for the most points by a teenager (49) against Charlotte Hornets.
