Currently ranked number one in the golfing world, Scottie Scheffler will be in line to win yet another PGA The Players’ Championship trophy at TPC Sawgrass on Wednesday.

What to know about Scottie Scheffler

Still only 29, Scheffler reigns supreme as the man to beat on the PGA Tour at the moment, having turned professional almost eight years ago.

Since then, the American has accumulated 20 wins on the PGA Tour, five titles on the European Tour, and two wins on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Scheffler could become a three-time winner of the Players’ Championship this week, as a win at Ponte Vedra Beach would see him join Jack Nicklaus as the only other three-time winner of the tournament.

Among his best achievements to date, Scheffler is a two-time Masters Tournament champion, and he also claimed the PGA Championship and Open Championship once each.

Regarding personal accolades, Scheffler is currently a four-time winner of the PGA Tour Player of the Year award and has topped the PGA Tour money list four times.

What did he say

With the Players’ Championship on the horizon, Scheffler took the time to answer criticisms about his recent form, feeling the media is trying to paint a negative narrative over the last couple of months.

"I think that's kind of a funny question, because if you flipped my season around and it was like, I finished 24th or something last week, 12th, then third and fourth, and a win... would your question be the same?,” Scheffler said.

"Your expectations of me are living week by week. My expectations of myself are almost more shot-by-shot.

"I think when you look at the perspective of the media, it's always trying to create a story, which can be a great thing - that's part of your job. But when it comes to my golf game, my expectations are all based around what I want.”
