Jorge Lorenzo will look to jump-start his 2019 MotoGP season when Round 3 is held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on Sunday 14 April.
The 31-year-old has thus far had a tough time, finishing a lowly 13th and 12th at the Qatar and Argentina rounds respectively. It is suggested that he has been struggling with the after effect of surgeries at the back end of 2018 and early this year to address injuries he has sustained.
Lorenzo, a three-time premier class champion, is under pressure to show more pace and consistency since switching to Honda at the beginning of the year, especially with teammate Marc Marquez leading the way in the riders’ championship.
The former Ducati and Yamaha man will hope to challenge his stable mate for the victory this weekend, but given that Marquez has an incredible MotoGP record in Austin (six wins from as many starts) that may be a stretch too far.
Instead, getting ahead of the likes of Yamaha duo Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales is a more realistic target, while Honda would certainly be appreciative if Lorenzo could keep the Ducati of Andrea Dovizioso off the tailpipe of Marquez.
At the very least, improving on his 11th place finish from the 2018 GP of the Americas will be Lorenzo’s aim.
