Red Bull driver Max Verstappen will be determined to secure a victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Belgian star failed to boost his hopes of finishing second on this year's Drivers' Championship standings after crashing at the recent Sakhir Grand Prix.

Verstappen and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari ended up with their cars in the wall following a crash in first-lap and both drivers were forced to retire.

As a result, Leclerc has been given a three-place penalty for the final race of the season (Abu Dhabi Grand Prix) as punishment for causing the collision by braking too late.

The Sakhir Grand Prix was won by Sergio Perez of Racing Point as he secured his maiden victory of the campaign.

Renault driver Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll of Racing Point finished second and third respectively in an entertaining race.

The reigning Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton remains at the top of the Drivers' Championship standings having successfully defended his title this year.

Hamiton's teammate Valtteri Bottas and Verstappen are placed second and third respectively on the standings.

There is a 16-point gap between Verstappen and Bottas heading into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Verstappen slammed Leclerc following the Sakhir Grand Prix as he felt that the Ferrari driver was aggressive and reckless.

“I don’t know why they were being so aggressive and so reckless," Verstappen said.

“I don’t really know why, especially Charles, in Turn 4, why he dives into the inside of that. Especially brake that late as well. What do you expect?

“I mean at the end of the day it doesn’t matter anymore does it. We’re out of the race, they can give him any penalty they want. It’s not going to change, especially my race. it’s just unfortunate.”

Mercedes, who have been crowned 2020 Formula One world constructors champions, are placed at the top of the standings with an unassailable lead of 540 points.

They are followed by second-placed Red Bull and third-placed Racing Point, who have accumulated 282 points and 194 points heading into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
