Amid a challenging season overall, South Africa’s Jordan Wessels will go into the as arguably the player to beat while he hopes to ward off stars such as Wandre Snyman and Daniel Smith.
Wessels holds a commanding lead on the Big Easy Tour table by Order of Merit after noting 655.92 points in nine tournaments so far.
The 21-year-old entered the upcoming showpiece in Category 1 as a winner on the Betway Big Easy Tour. Wessels’ most impressive outing this year came at the Big Easy Tour 1 at the Benoni Country Club in May where he finished as the winner.
Wessels’ next best showing came at the Betway Big Easy Tour 4, where he ended the course as the runner-up at the Glenvista Country Club in June.
The South African’s rise to the top did not come without complications after he missed cut at the Big Easy Tour 2 and 10 events, as well as at the Betway Big Easy Blue Label Unlimited Invitational 2.
However, apart from the disappointments, Wessels has five top five finishes on the tour this year en-route to taking top spot on the log as he hopes to increase his R58 882 in career prize money this week.
