Coming into the
Rocket Classic as the seventh ranked player in the world, Chris Gotterup stands in line to claim his fourth win of the year as one of the competition’s favourites in Detroit.
Hailing from Maryland, the 27-year-old turned professional in 2022 on the back of a relatively short amateur career.
Gotterup’s best year as an amateur came in 2019, where he walked away with the Metropolitan Amateur and Fighting Irish Classic titles to his name before bagging the Puerto Rico Invitational in 2022.
Noted for his rise in golf, Gotterup also won the Haskins and Jack Nicklaus Award in 2022 after transferring to the University of Oklahoma where he made a name for himself among top college level golfers.
After partaking in the NCCA Championship, Gotterup turned professional in 2022 and has since went onto to win five titles on the PGA Tour, with the first being the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic in May 2024.
Gotterup sensationally finished ahead of Rory Mcllroy and Marco Penge at the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, claiming a two-stroke victory over his opponents in what is largely billed as one of his most impressive feats of his career so far.
Also, 2026 is proving to be a good year for Gotterup after recording wins at the Sony Open in Hawaii, WM Phoenix Open and John Deere Classic between January and July.
