Top 5 performers in the EPL this season

This Premier League season has been one for the books, it’s been full of drama, excitement, upsets and uncertainty. Liverpool look set to win their first title in 30 years while Arsenal have been having a season to forget and Sheffield United have surprised everyone with how well their season has been going.

Each team has one player who has been lighting the Premier League up week-in and week-out. For Norwich it’s Teemu Pukki, for Liverpool you could pick anyone of their starting XI, and for Arsenal its Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

These are five of the best performers in the league at the moment.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold has taken the Premier League by storm this season. Not only is he strong, fast and the perfect right-back for Liverpool, but he also has the ability to set up stunning counter-attacks that put his teammates through on goal.

The Liverpool-born fullback has not only found the back of the net twice, but has hand a hand in 12 other goals – the most by any defender in EPL history. Moreover, there is only one other player in the league who has more assists than TAA, Kevin De Bruyne, Man City’s talismanic midfielder.

Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne’s 2018/19 season was plagued by injury, but he has shown this season why he is still considered the best midfielder in the Premier League at the moment.

Not only has the Belgian set up the most chances (96) in any of Europe’s top five leagues, but he also has more assists than any other player in the league this season and is just four away from shattering Thierry Henry’s record.

He has had a hand in 24 of Man City’s goals this season and is among the favourites to take home the PFA Player of the Year Award.

Mateo Kovacic, Chelsea

Chelsea has a fielded a younger side than we’re used to seeing this season, and at the heart of that side has been Mateo Kovacic.

The Croatian has teamed up well with Jorginho in the midfield and has been a driving force for the Blues. There is no doubt that the former Real Madrid star has put in a number of match-winning performances for Chelsea and has, at times, been the reason Frank Lampard has been forced to bench N’golo Kante.

Dele Alli, Tottenham Hotspur

In addition to becoming the youngest player in Premier League history to reach 50 goals, Dele Alli has been a shining light in a Tottenham side that has struggled this season.

Alli has been one of the few players who has flourished under new manager, Jose Mourinho, and many are saying that it may just have saved his England career. The 23-year-old has put in several inspired performances and has been directly involved in 14 goals for Spurs.

There is no doubt that with Christian Eriksen’s exit from the club earlier this season, Spurs will be craving a midfielder who can control the game and set up a number of goal scoring opportunities. Dele Alli is certainly the one to do that.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal

We’ve been subjected to an incredibly lacklustre Arsenal side this season. With a number of losses to sides they really should have beaten this season, the Gunners have found themselves mid-table for the majority of the season.

That being said, their defence may be letting them down, but their prolific goalscorer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has continued to find the back of the net this season. Aubameyang has scored Premier League goals in the 2019/20 season and looks set to claim his second Golden Boot in a row.

If the Gunners aren’t able to turn their fortunes around next season, they could find a number of clubs sniffing around their world-class striker.
