World no. 16 Justin Thomas will make his ninth appearance on the PGA Tour this season at the Charles Schwab Challenge since returning from a back injury.
The American underway surgery on his lower back in November after struggling with pain in his right leg and hip for months last year.
Thomas took 10 weeks off and eased himself back with TGL, a high-tech indoor golf league before making his return at the Arnold palmer Invitational.
The 33-year-old missed the cut at Bay Hill, but has shown glimpses of his old self in the last two months, finishing T8 at the Players Championship and T4 at the PGA Championship.
Thomas ended the week at Aronimink four shots behind winner Aaron Rai and he skipped the Byron Nelson to prepare for his challenge at Colonial.
"Nice week off to hone in and work on some mechanics I've been feeling the last month or so," he wrote on Instagram.
"Really been trying to work on keeping my hands and body moving in sync and not letting my arms run up and long at the top of my backswing.
"When they do that, I tend to not have as much control on the way down - with my tendency being to hang back and stand up on the way down while I throw my hands at it.
"Not ideal or very consistent. Lots of reps like these videos of less balls hit, but really focusing on where I'm feeling the club (butt end of the grip, handle, hands, arms, shaft of the club, etc) and my body as I swing."
