Afcon qualifying Groups A-F preview

Groups A through F of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification tournament will see their matchday three fixtures played from Wednesday 10 to Saturday 13 October, with heavyweights such as Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, Morocco and Senegal in action.

The round begins on Wednesday afternoon with a clash in Bahir Dar which sees Ethiopia host Kenya in an East African derby. The teams are competing in Group F, with the other match in the pool seeing Ghana host Sierra Leone in Kumasi the following day. All four teams have three points thus far.

With a grand prize of a flat screen TV and DStv for a year, weekly giveaways, and thousands of daily prizes to be won, it’s time for the 30,000 in 30 Days promotion

The weekend’s action begins on Friday with 2019 hosts Cameroon facing the Flames of Malawi in a Group B clash. Indomitable Lions coach Clarence Seedorf has already gone back on his word that he would not pick players based in China, calling up Christian Bassogog for the matches against the Southern Africans.

Another big name in action on Friday is Nigeria (though they have requested to have the match moved to Saturday) as they host Libya for a crunch Group E match. The Super Eagles are just one point behind co-leaders Libya and South Africa in the pool, and will fancy their chances of jumping to the head of the standings.

However, Nigeria forward Simeon Nwankwo insists the match against the Mediterranean Knights will not be an easy one: “On the Libya game, it is going to a very tight and close game,” Simy told All Nigeria Soccer. “We will approach the game with the same determination to win and build up our qualifying chances.”

Friday will also see Mali looking to continue their dominance in Group C when they host Burundi in Bamako, while the other match in the pool sees Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Gabon looking to pick up their first win at home to South Sudan, and the evening wraps up with Algeria and Benin meeting in a top-of-the-table clash in Group D.

Saturday opens with South Africa targeting a home win over minnows Seychelles in Johannesburg and wraps up with Senegal hosting bottom-of-the-log Sudan in a Group A clash in Dakar, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Keita Balde and Ismaila Sarr looking to fire the Teranga Lions to three points.

In between, Morocco will target a big win at home to Comoros – with attackers Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri looking to continue their excellent form – and Equatorial Guinea will look to move into the top two of Group A with a home win over Madagascar.
