Max Verstappen looks to continue his consistency

2019 Formula 1 season, Round 4

Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Baku City Circuit, Baku

Sunday 28 April

Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen will look to continue his consistent performances in the 2019 Formula 1 season when Round 4 rolls into the Baku City Circuit for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday 28 April.

The 21-year-old Dutchman has thus far claimed a third-place finish at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, followed by back-to-back fourths at Bahrain and China. His consistency has been rewarded with 39 points, putting him in third place on the Drivers’ Championship standings behind the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Max Verstappen looks to continue his consistency

That Verstappen is ahead of both Ferrari drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc, despite having an inferior car in terms of outright pace, speaks volumes for both his racecraft and Red Bull’s excellence on the strategy front.

The next step is to try and remain ahead of the Scuderia, while also possibly challenging the ‘Silver Arrows’ duo. The Baku City Circuit could well prove a good place for Verstappen to do exactly that, with former teammate Daniel Ricciardo having won for Red Bull at the 2017 edition of the Azerbaijan GP.

F1 World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton.

On the other side of the Red Bull garage, the pressure in growing on Frenchman Pierre Gasly, who has yet to claim a top-five finish and has been thoroughly out-performed by his teammate. He will need a strong showing in Baku to convince the Austrian racing outfit that he is worthy of keeping his seat for the long term.
