Matchday 33

Watford v Brentford

Premier League debutants Brentford will look to keep the momentum going against struggling Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday, April 16.

The Bees have experienced an upturn in fortunes recently after a poor run of form in the opening two months of 2022, when they picked up just one win in nine games.

However, a 2-0 triumph over Champions League hopefuls West Ham last weekend made it four victories in five outings for Thomas Frank's side, who moved up to 13th in the standings.

Frank lauded his players for an outstanding performance against the Hammers and admitted it was a reflection of how much progress has been made by the club.

"I think it was close to a complete performance. It was the first time all season we have more or less controlled the game from minute one to minute 90," the Dane said.

"Winning 2-0 against a very good side, a side in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and challenging for the top four, and restricting them to just five shots, that's 'wow' for me.

"I'm very proud of the performance, it was possibly even more complete than the Chelsea one. The way we did it shows how far we've come."

The Hornets appear to be heading for the Championship after a 3-0 loss at home to Leeds over the weekend left them six points adrift of safety in 19th place.

They have now lost seven matches since Roy Hodgson took charge on January 25, with four of those coming in their last five encounters.

However, Hodgson is refusing to throw in the towel and is urging his players to keep fighting until the bitter end.

"It's not over until it's over, and you mustn't allow yourself one minute to wallow in self-pity. You've got to keep believing, keep hoping," he said.

"I've been a part of that at Fulham, we were relegated at half-time with three games to go, but in some way we got a result in that game and ended up staying up as well, so that's going to be my message to the players."
