Valtteri Bottas will be determined to win the 2022 Australian Grand Prix and retain the title which he won in 2019.

The Finnish star is defending champion having won this event while representing Mercedes and he became the first driver to win a bonus point for the fastest lap of the race since 1959.

Bottas marked his debut as an Alfa Romeo driver with a sixth spot finish at Bahrain Grand Prix on March 20, before being forced to retire at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on March 27

The former Williams driver, who has been drivers' championship runner-up twice, in 2019 and 2020, was running ninth in Saudi Arabia when a coolant issue forced him to retire from the race.

Red Bull Racing-RBPT driver Max Verstappen won the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, while the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr finished second and third respectively.

Bottas is currently placed ninth on the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings having accumulated six points which he got from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The 32-year-old will now be returning to the Albert Park Circuit where he has some good memories from 2019 when he beat his then-teammate Lewis Hamilton to the finishing line.

“I think we were looking at finishing around sixth. We had an issue with the engine temperature, it kept rising so we had to stop the race," Bottas said after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

"because the engine temperature kept climbing and there was nothing we could do, and we did not want to lose the engine. Looking at the positives, the car is really good.

"We made another step forward from the previous race, even in the starts. We were doing a good job and enjoying some close battles, now let’s make sure we get back to scoring in Australia.”

Ferrari (78 points) are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Mercedes (38 points) and Red Bull Racing-RBPT (37 points) respectively.
