Billy Horschel will be hoping to make history by winning the 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans having enjoyed some success in the event in the past.

The American star has won this tournament in 2013 and 2018 (with his compatriot Scott Piercy), and he is now hoping to become the first golfer to win the Zurich Classic three times.

Horschel, who is the only player to claim both individual and team titles at the Zurich Classic, will again pair with two-time PGA Tour winner Sam Burns in this year’s tournament.

Ranked 14th in the Official World Golf Ranking, Horschel has won six times on the PGA Tour including the BMW Championship, Tour Championship and AT & T Byron Nelson.

His last win on the PGA Tour came at the 2021 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play defeating Scottie Scheffler 2 & 1 in the final and this was his first World Golf Championship victory.

Meanwhile, Burns - a three-time winner on PGA Tour - held the lead in four different tournaments last season before breaking through with a win at the 2021 Valspar Championship.

Currently ranked 11th on the Official Wolf Golf Rankings, Burns had tied for fourth in the 2021 Zurich Classic with Horschel the week before his maiden win at Valspar Championship.

Burns, who successfully defended his Valspar Championship title two months ago, is now looking to help Horschel make history and also clinch his maiden Zurich Classic title this year.

“Billy will be going for an unprecedented third victory at the Zurich Classic,” said Steve Worthy, the Zurich Classic tournament director.

“They have good experience playing together, as they finished second by one stroke as a team in last year’s QBE Shootout and fourth in our tournament."

There is yet to be a three-time winner at Zurich Classic, but ten have won twice namely; Henry Picard, Byron Nelson, Bo Wininger, Frank Beard, Billy Casper, Tom Watson, Chip Beck Ben Crenshaw, Carlos Franco and Horschel.
