Arsenal look to wrap up qualification

2019-20 UEFA Europa League

Group Stage, Matchday 5

Thursday 28 November 2019

Arsenal will look to wrap up qualification for the knockout phase of the UEFA Europa League when they welcome Group F rivals Eintracht Frankfurt the Emirates Stadium in London on Thursday 28 November 2019, kick-off at 21:00. The match is one of 24 across the continent in Matchday 5 of the second-tier UEFA competition.

Arsenal come into the game as clear leaders of the pool, with a haul of 10 points from a possible 12 thus far. The English giants were last in Europa League action in early November, playing out a 1-1 draw away to Portugal’s Vitoria de Guimaraes.

The Gunners need only avoid defeat to guarantee a place in the next phase of the continental competition, while a win will secure top spot and ensure they have a more favourable draw for the knockout rounds.

"In the Europa League it's about being first in the group and at the moment we are. It's still a possibility to be [finish] first,” said manager Unai Emery, who has come under increasing pressure due to his side’s underwhelming domestic performances.

Frankfurt have had mixed results in the Europa League thus far and sit in third place on the log, though they are level on six points with Standard Liege. The German side were beaten 2-1 by the Belgian club earlier this month, conceding a last-gasp goal to Maxime Lestienne.

Manager Adi Hutter will want to see a more disciplined and determined showing from his team, who will need to adapt their game to cope with the pace and power Arsenal have in attack.

Arsenal and Frankfurt met at the Waldstadion in Germany in their opening Group F match back in September. The Gunner claimed an emphatic 3-0 win, with goals from Joe Willock, Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The other Group F match on Thursday night sees Vitoria de Guimaraes host Standard Liege at Estadio D. Afonso Henriques.
