Round 10, Styrian Grand Prix

The Repsol Honda and LCR Honda teams will be looking for a change of fortunes when the second half of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship kicks off with the Styrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria on the afternoon of Sunday 8 August 2021.

Between them, the Repsol and LCR teams have managed just 166 points, with their only bright spot being the stunning victory claimed by Marc Marquez at the German Grand Prix in June. The Spaniard is only 10th on the Riders’ Championship standings, closely followed by LCR’s Nakagami and Repsol’s Pol Espargaro (level on points in 11th and 12th respectively).

Espargaro and Marcquez have fallen 13 and nine times each this season (not including testing) as they explore the limits of their RC213V bikes.

"What we need for Austria [after the summer break] is more edge grip and drive, more stability and a little bit more power. This is what I'm missing at the moment," Espargaro explained. "The full stability of the bike [at the previous round in Assen] has been an issue, pumping quite a lot and when this happens you waste a lot of energy just by trying to control the bike on the straight.

"Otherwise, just rest a little and restart again. When the results are not going good, it's good to make one step back, sit and think and rest again for the Austrian Grand Prix."

Espargaro added, I'm equal on points with Taka, nine points off Marquez, but for sure the results are not coming. In the worst situation to be the second Honda is not too bad but for sure it's not what I want.

"I want to be more up in the championship, I want to do better results and for sure our performance has been poor in the first part of the season. So let’s hope for a better second half, especially by not doing so many mistakes."
