Nigeria will face off with Liberia in their opening 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier - Group C match on September 3.

Therefore, Nigeria are winless in their last three matches across all competitions having recorded two defeats and one draw.

The Super Eagles are undefeated in their last five home matches having registered one draw and four victories.

"We are going to prepare the team as best as possible," Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr said.

"But unfortunately we won't have almost all our midfielders and our central defence is also affected for the game against Cape Verde. But it can be dangerous to focus only on the second match [against Cape Verde].

"While we are still preparing for the first game [against Liberia] which is the most important for us now; we have to make a good first game in this important FIFA competition."

Nigeria will be looking to continue their dominance over the Lone Star of Liberia when the two West African teams clash.

This will be the 15th meeting between the two teams across all competitions and Nigeria have been dominant.

The Super Eagles have recorded nine victories compared to Lone Star's three, while two matches ended in a stalemate.

The last time Nigeria hosted Liberia was on 13 October 2012.

The Super Eagles proved too strong for the Lone Star as they ran out 6-1 winners in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
