2022/23 English Premier League

Matchday 4

Manchester City v Crystal Palace

Etihad Stadium
Manchester, England
Saturday, 27 August 2022
Kick-off is at 15h00

Premier League champions Manchester City will attempt to get back on the winning trail when Crystal Palace visit the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, August 27.

The Citizens dropped their first points of the new campaign when they were held to a 3-3 draw by Newcastle at St James' Park on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola's side had taken an early lead through Ilkay Gundogan (5') before the Magpies went 3-1 up and they needed two goals in the space of three second-half minutes from Erling Haaland (61') and Bernardo Silva (64') to rescue a share of the spoils on Tyneside.

City have won their opening two games against West Ham and Bournemouth, and trail leaders Arsenal by two points in second place.

Guardiola has welcomed the latest experience as he got to see how his players responded to an adverse situation.

"It's really good for us to live these kinds of experiences," the Spaniard said. "I told them at half-time that we need to live this. We were 2-1 down, let's see how we are as a team.

"The second half started well but we conceded a brilliant goal. We kick off after the third, we attacked and we showed that we were there. We score two more goals and in general we create a lot of chances, one-on-ones against [Nick] Pope. England has an incredible goalkeeper there.

"We have to live these situations, that is why the Premier League is so difficult. Everyone is going to drop points and we've dropped the first two but considering how we behaved when we were 3-1 down to get to 3-3."

Palace were only one of two teams to inflict defeat on City last term and came away with four points from their two league meetings.

The Eagles claimed their first victory of the season with a 3-1 success over Aston Villa in the English capital on Saturday, which put them on four points and saw them climb to ninth in the standings.

Patrick Vieira's troops are now unbeaten in their last two outings after drawing 1-1 with Liverpool, having lost 2-0 to Arsenal on the opening weekend.

Wilfried Zaha inspired the comeback against Villa with a brace to cancel out Ollie Watkins' fifth-minute opener and Vieira hailed the winger's fighting spirit, which helped the team to get on the front foot.

"I loved his performance and don't want him to change. He's a fighter. When it's tough he puts his sleeves up and is going into the fight," the Frenchman said.

"Today he was really good, really good for the team - worked well and defended well from the front. That allowed us to win the ball high up the field and create those chances."
