Former champion Lucas Glover will be looking to join an elite list when he tees off at the
Wyndham Championship on Thursday, July 31.
The American beat An Byeong-hun (KOR) and Russell Henley (USA) by two strokes in 2023 after carding a 20-under 260 to record the sixth win of his PGA Tour career.
Only Byron Nelson (2), Sam Snead (8), Doug Sanders (2), Billy Casper (2), George Archer (2), Danny Edwards (2), Sandy Lyle (2), Rocco Mediate (2), Davis Love III (3) and Brandt Snedeker (2) have won the title more than once.
Glover has been a regular at the Sedgefield Country Club since 2007, only missing out on the tournament in 2012 and 2018, although he's finished in the top 10 just twice (7th in 2010).
The 45-year-old, who won the US Open in 2009, has achieved five top-10 finishes this year, with his best performances coming in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (T3) and the Players Championship (T3).
Glover recently called PGA officials "short-sighted" for wanting to reduce the number of players on the Tour when most other sports are expanding their competitions.
"Limiting access is not a way to grow the talent coming into the PGA Tour, in my opinion, and making fields smaller doesn't increase competition. That's impossible. It doesn't make any sense," Glover said.
"We're the only sports organisation that's saying that less players means more competition and that’s been my soapbox. Every other sport has widened their fields, broadened their playoffs, more games, more teams, expanding.
"We're using pace of play as a crutch to say we need less players and I just don't agree with that and I think that's short-sighted and honestly not the right way to go about it."
