Roma and Fiorentina will meet for the most eagerly-anticipated clash in Matchday 1 of the new Serie A season, set for the Olympic Stadium in Rome on the evening of Monday 24 August.
Form and team news
Roma ended last season strongly and finished in third place on the Serie A log, securing a return to the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2018/19. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini appears to have the faith and trust of his squad, though his relationship with club management remains rocky.
One of the issues the coach has complained about is the lack of major signings, though the Giallorossi have brought in the likes of Santiago Castro, Konstantinos Koulierakis and Daniele Ghilardi, while also making the loan spell of Donyell Malen a permanent move.
Fiorentina endured a tough 2025/26 season, finishing in 15th place on the log and battling against the threat of relegation for much of the campaign. La Viola dispensed with coaches Stefano Pioli and Paolo Vanoli through the course of the season, and hired Fabio Gross in June of this year.
The Florence club has signed Christ Inao Oulai, Arthur Atta, Viery, Giovanni Fabbian, Marco Brescianini, Victor Valdepenas, Joao Mario and Radu Dragusin, while Nicolas Valentini, Lorenzo Amatucci, Jonas Harder and Luis Balbo have been sold.

Roma and Fiorentina have met in 199 matches dating back as far as 1931. The Gialorossi have claimed 71 wins compared to 60 for La Viola, while 68 games have been drawn.
Roma completed a league ‘double’ over Fiorentina last season, winning 2-1 away in October 2025 and 4-0 at home in May 2026.
