Semifinals

18-19 July 2020

Arsenal will be looking to break Manchester City’s stranglehold over them when the teams meet in the first FA Cup semifinal, set for Wembley Stadium on Saturday 18 July 2020, kick-off at 19:45.

The winners will advance to face either Manchester United or Chelsea in the final on 1 August 2020. The Red Devils and the Blues will meet in the second semifinal at Wembley on the evening of Sunday 19 July.

The Citizens have enjoyed strong dominance over the Gunners in recent times, racking up seven successive victories in the rivalry – including a 3-0 beating at the Etihad Stadium in the teams’ first post-lockdown clash last month. A possibly good omen for Arsenal is that their last win over Man City came in an FA Cup semifinal back in 2017.

The Gunners showed their ability to take down a heavyweight when they edged Liverpool 2-1 in a Premier League match in midweek.

“The gap in many areas we can't improve it in two months but the gap between the accountability, the energy, the commitment and the fight between the two teams is now equal,” said manager Mikel Arteta.

"Before it wasn't like this. I'm very proud of that. The rest will take some time but at least we've got that now and my message to the players is with that we can create something.”

Manchester City, meanwhile, rotated their squad but still claimed a relatively comfortable 2-1 win over Bournemouth – a team fighting for their lives near the bottom of the log.

“It was a really difficult game, they played really well,” said manager Pep Guardiola. “We could not control it. Their high pressing was good. It was a difficult game.

“They played with a need to stay in the Premier League. We played well in some moments. The same is going to happen against Watford. It will be so tight. It is normal.”
