The tie between Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors headlines the 2019/20 National Basketball Association (NBA) Eastern Conference semi-finals.

The Celtics are eased into this round after brushing aside Philadelphia 76ers in a one-sided First Round tie.

They recorded an impressive 4-0 win as they kept their hopes of winning a record-extending 18th NBA championship this season.

The Celtics are pinning their hopes on Jayson Tatum, who has been one of the best players in the current campaign.

The 22-year-old small forward was named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for February 2020.

Brad Stevens, the Celtics head coach, says it is important for his side to run a good offence after their 112-94 win over Raptors in game one of the seven-game playoff series on Sunday, August 30.

“We just want to run good offence. Good offence means that you make the right play when the right play presents itself," Stevens said.

"If you’re supposed to go the glass based on the positioning you’re in, go. And everybody sprints back immediately to set your defence so … the emphasis to go to the glass or not doesn’t really change.

Meanwhile, the Raptors are under pressure to defend their title after eliminating Brooklyn Nets in the First Round tie.

The Raptors also claimed a commendable 4-0 victory over the Nets as they made their intentions clear as they look to emulate the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors are the last team to win back to back titles having achieved this feat in 2017 and 2018.

The Raptors' star player is Kawhi Leonard, who has won two NBA championships with San Antonio Spurs and Raptors.

Nicknamed the "Claw," or "Klaw," for his ball-hawking skills, Leonard has earned five All-Defensive Team selections and won Defensive Player of the Year honours in 2015 and 2016.

Lastly, Los Angeles Clippers have booked their place in the Western Conference semi-finals, but they are awaiting the winner between Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz.

Their rivals Los Angeles Lakers are also awaiting the winner between Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets in the Western Conference semi-finals.

Two former NBA champions Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks are battling it out in the Eastern Conference semi-final tie.
