Red Bull Racing-Honda's Max Verstappen will be targeting nothing but a win when he takes part in the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix on December 5.

The Dutch star's hopes of winning this season's Formula One world title took a knock when he finished second at the Qatar Grand Prix on November 21.

It was Verstappen's second successive second-place finish having also been the runner-up at the Brazilian Grand Prix on November 14.

The Qatar Grand Prix was won by Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes as he continues to battle for the Formula One world championship with Verstappen.

Looking at the Drivers' Championship standings, Verstappen is still sitting at the top and he is followed by his closest rival, Hamilton.

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas remains third on the standings and he is followed by Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez as they compete for the third spot.

Verstappen is now just eight points above Hamilton and whoever wins the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will be at the top of the standings heading into the final race of the season.

"Once I knew I was starting seventh, I was very motivated to move ahead and that's what we did," Verstappen said after the Qatar Grand Prix.

"We had a good first lap and after five laps we were second again, and I just kept the gap small through the race. At the end of the day, to get that fastest lap was very nice. Of course, I know it's going to be difficult to the end [of the season] but I think that's nice, it keeps it exciting.

"This track is a lot of fun to drive and it's really quick. Degradation-wise the tyres were holding on quite well, so it was cool. It's going to be a tight battle until the end. There are two races to go, anything is possible."

Mercedes are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Red Bull Racing-Honda and McLaren-Mercedes respectively.
