2025/26 Premier League

Matchday 17

Newcastle United v Chelsea FC

St James' Park

Newcastle, England

Saturday, 20 December 2025

Kick-off is at 14h30

Newcastle United will go head-to-head with a revitalised Chelsea FC side in the Premier League match at St. James' Park on 20 December.

Current Form

The Magpies suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland AFC away on 14 December, which saw their four-match unbeaten run in the league come to an end.

However, Newcastle are undefeated in their last five home matches in the Premier League, having registered four wins and one draw at St James' Park.

Meanwhile, Chelsea emerged as 2-0 winners over Everton FC on 13 December, snapping a three-match unbeaten run in the league.

However, the Blues are winless in their last two away matches in the Premier League, having recorded one draw and one defeat on the road.

Team News

Newcastle do not have any suspension concerns, but William Osula, Sven Botman, Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth and Nick Pope are currently injured.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have Levi Colwill, Dario Essugo, Liam Delap and Romeo Lavia on their injury list and the former champions have no suspension worries.

Quotes

"I’m very happy for Cole [to score] and as I’ve said many times before, we are a better team with him in the side," Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez said after his side's win over Everton.

"But I really want to praise all the players and the squad, because we’ve had a lot of games recently. We’ve also played five games without Moi [Caicedo], 11 without Cole and almost all the games without Liam [Delap].

"There are important players for us and I’m sure people can appreciate that. It’s very important for Cole and hopefully it will give him a boost. Today was also important for all the players and the fans too. We are very happy with the result."

Head-to-Head

Newcastle claimed a 2-0 win over Chelsea in their last meeting in the league, which was in May 2025 at St James' Park.

The win ended the Magpies' two-match winless run in the Premier League games against the Blues, who had recorded two consecutive victories.
