Scottie Scheffler will be determined to become the first golfer to successfully defend the
WM Phoenix Open title since Hideki Matsuyama retained it in 2017.
What to know about Scheffler
The American star is a former world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) having held this position from March to October 2022.
Scheffler won the 2022 Masters Tournament, defeating Rory McIlroy by three strokes and he became the fifth golfer to enter the tournament ranked world number one in the world and go on to win the event.
The New Jersey-born golfer has won six professional tournaments including four PGA Tour events: Phoenix Open, Palmer Invitational, WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play as well as the Masters.

Scheffler took part in last month's The American Express and it was his second participation in a professional tournament in 2023.
The reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year finished 11th and he watched on as Jon Rahm won the tournament after shooting 27-under-par for four rounds to beat Davis Thompson by one shot.
The Phoenix Open will give Scheffler an opportunity to win the event and consolidate his spot in the top two positions in world golf.
Why Scheffler is among favourites
The 2021-22 PGA Tour leading money winner has finished in the top 10 in the last three PGA Tour tournaments he has competed in.
He finished second at the Hero World Challenge where Viktor Hovland withstood a final-hole blunder and closed with a 3-under 69 to notch a two-stroke victory over Scheffler in December 2022.
Scheffler then competed in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions where he finished seventh and he will now return to TPC Scottsdale - Stadium Course where he has good memories from last year.

“I think it’s one of the more scorable stretches on Tour," Scheffler said after taking advantage of holes 13 through 18, where he finished 11-under for the 2022 Phoenix Open tournament.
"But there’s a lot of risk/reward with 17 being drivable but with water, and 15 having a lot of water but being a reachable par 5. 13 is also a really hard tee shot, but another one where if you hit a good drive, you can take advantage of it.
"So definitely a lot of scoring, but also a tough stretch because you have to hit a lot of good shots in order to score.”
