Granada had a fairytale season in La Liga in what was their return to the Spanish top-flight league.

Under new manager Diego Martínez, Granada returned to the elite league as runners-up to CA Osasuna in the 2018/19 Segunda Division.

El Grana were expected to struggle in the league, but they surprised many by challenging for a top-seven finish which would earn them a place in a European competition.

The team's attack which was led by the experienced Roberto Soldado excelled and it was key to El Grana success during the campaign.

The former Spain international returned to La Liga and joined Granada prior to the start of the recent season following a spell with Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Soldado emerged through La Liga giants Real Madrid's youth system, he went on to appear in 27 official matches for the first team and netted four goals.

However, the prolific marksman became a more regular La Liga player and goalscorer for Osasuna, Getafe, and Valencia, and also won the Zarra Trophy 2012.

Zarra Trophy is the Spanish sports daily Marca to the Spanish domestic player with the highest goal total in a La Liga season.

Soldado, who won the 2007/08 La Liga title with Real, hit the back of the net seven times and registered four assists for El Grana in the league.

The 35-year-old marksman finished the campaign as the team's joint-second top goalscorer alongside Venezuelan striker Darwin Machis and Spanish forward Antonio Puertas.

"We have had a great start that none of us could have imagined, even reaching top spot in the table," Soldado said earlier in the season when speaking on ESPN.

"But the important thing is how we all feel about the way we are playing and having 20 points already -- that's halfway to staying up. But we know there is a long way to go and we know we have to keep pushing ourselves to make sure we survive. That's the dream we all have."

Carlos Fernandez was the main source of goals for El Grana during the team's successful campaign in one of the biggest football leagues in the world.

The former Spain under-21 international, who was on loan from Sevilla, hit the back of the net 10 times for Granada and he created three goals in the process.

El Grana had a five-match unbeaten run in September as they recorded four wins and one draw and it helped them maintain their spot in the top half of the league standings.

They ended the season with an impressive 4-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in July 2020 and the result saw them finish seventh in the league

As a result, El Grana qualified for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in the club's history.
