The 2019-20 La Liga season was suspended in March, with 27 of the scheduled 38 rounds completed. We take a closer look at the campaign’s most salient statistics thus far.

2 Barcelona hold a narrow two-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of La Liga’s log table. "I would like to play and be champion by playing, that's obvious,” said Barcelona manager Quique Setien. “The situation has stopped the league and, as it is now, I don't know if it would be worth awarding the title or not. The reality is that I'm not going to feel like a champion, even if I have two more points than Real Madrid.”

15 – The longest unbeaten run in this La Liga season was Real Madrid’s 15 matches, running from 30 October 2019 (a 5-0 win over Leganes) until a 1-0 loss away to Levante on 22 February 2020.

685 – The total number of goals scored in the 2019-20 La Liga season, at an average of 2.54 per match. The 2018-19 season produced 983 goals at 2.59 per match.

110 – The number of scheduled matches remaining in the 2019-20 season.

19 – The number of goals netted by leading scorer Lionel Messi – five more than nearest chaser Karim Benzema. "Messi can't be compared with anyone," said former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde. "It's very difficult to tell him if 'you've seen this or another player' when he does things in training that you haven't seen. Many times, from the touchline, you're always thinking what can be the best option and, ultimately, he sees it much better than you from on the pitch."

4-4 – The highest scoring match of the 2019-20 La Liga season thus far was a 4-4 thriller between Villarreal and Granada on 17 August 2019.

12 – Lionel Messi also tops the assists charts with 12 – four clear of Real Sociedad’s Portu.

4 – There have been four hat-tricks in the 2019-20 La Liga season. Lionel Messi accounts for three of them (against Celta Vigo, Mallorca and Eibar), while the odd one out was scored by 38-year-old veteran winger Joaquin for Real Betis against Athletic Bilbao.
