In-form Thiem eyes French Open glory

Austrian player Dominic Thiem will be determined to clinch the French Open title at the Stade Roland Garros.
 
The 27-year-old is ranked number three in the world which is also his career-high ATP ranking. 
 
Thiem is the second-highest ranked Austrian player in history, behind former world number one Thomas Muster.

The Wiener Neustadt-born player won his first and only Grand Slam title at the 2020 US Open last month. 
 
The man nicknamed Domi came back from two sets down to defeat Germany's Alexander Zverev in the final which was enthralling.

With the win, Thiem became the first male player born in the 1990s to claim a Grand Slam singles title, as well as the first Austrian to win a US Open singles title. 
 
Domi had previously reached three other Grand Slam finals, losing at the 2018 and 2019 French Open to Rafael Nadal.

And at the 2020 Australian Open to Novak Djokovic, who won the tournament for a record eighth time.
 
Thiem secured his place in the quarter-finals after defeating France's Hugo Gaston and he will face Diego Schwartzmann of Argentina in the last eight.
 
"I think it was an amazing match for both of us, such good fighting qualities for him [Gaston]," Thiem said. 
 
"I haven't seen for a very long time a player with such a big touch in his hands. His drop shots were from another planet. I was losing a little bit of energy, he was playing amazing. 
 
"In the fifth set I found somehow new energy. It was a great fight to the end and I'm very lucky I made it through today."
