The Memphis Grizzlies will look to maul the Detroit Pistons when the teams meet for an NBA Regular Season game at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee on the morning of Friday 7 January 2022. Tip-off is at 02:00.
The Grizzlies have established themselves as one of the top teams in the Western Conference, enjoying a record over .600, which leaves only the Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz ahead of them. Memphis underlined their status as a team to watch when they beat the Los Angeles Lakers 104-99 last week.

"What an unbelievable night by Ja [Morant, who had 41 points]," Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said. "When he got going it kind of fueled everyone else. We've said it from Day 1, he's built for moments like this."
Morant added, "I was taking what the defence gave me and it turned out good for us. That's normally how I attack every game. Tonight was just my night."
The Pistons, meanwhile, are bottom of the standings in the Eastern Conference and have not even managed a .200 record through the season. They have also seen their roster ravaged by Covid-19 absences, most notably when they were beaten 94-85 at home by the New York Knicks last week.

"I've got to do more for us to get the win," said Saddiq Bey, the only usual starter in uniform for the Pistons in that game, who managed a career high 32 points. "I take that responsibility."
In head-to-head stats, the Grizzlies and the Pistons have met in 50 Regular Season games since 1995-96, with Detroit claiming 27 wins compared to 23 for Memphis. The teams’ last Regular Season meeting was in May 2021, with the Pistons winning 111-97 at home thanks to 18 points apiece from Corey Joseph and Wayne Ellington.
