Matchday 20

Chelsea v Crystal Palace

Stamford Bridge
London, England

Chelsea will attempt to get their faltering season back on track when they face Crystal Palace in a London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, January 15.

The Blues have blown hot and cold under Graham Potter since he succeeded Thomas Tuchel at the helm in September and find themselves 10th in the Premier League table after 17 matches.

Potter began his tenure with a five-game unbeaten run but a 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Thursday was his fourth defeat in six outings.

Potter accepts their form isn't great at the moment, although he pointed out that losing Raheem Sterling and Cristian Pulisic to injury inside the opening 22 minutes didn't help matters.

"You have to take responsibility when we're not playing well but at the same time you hope people look at the whole context in terms of what we've had to deal with," he said.

"Emotions are high. We'll try to ride out the storm and I think the crowd appreciated the performance and were behind the team tonight. Our supporters were fantastic and got behind the team in a great way."

The Eagles recovered from a disappointing start to proceedings by winning four of their last seven games before the World Cup break.

However, Patrick Vieira's side slumped to a heavy 4-0 defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday, which was their third loss in four matches and saw them drop to 12th spot.

Vieira felt the scoreline was harsh on Palace but acknowledged they lacked a clinical edge in the final third which made all the difference in the end.

"It was a tough night. To concede four goals, I think that doesn't reflect the quality of the game we played today," the Frenchman said.

"I think we had situations. I think we weren't clinical enough. We didn't take our chances well enough.

"I believe the 4-0 is hard for us, for my players, and for the club, but we still have a lot to take from it."
