Nigeria will go head to head with Equatorial Guinea in the
2023 AFCON Group A match at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on 14 January.
Current Form
The Super Eagles succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Guinea in a friendly game on 8 January as they extended their winless run to three matches across all competitions.
Nigeria saw their four-match unbeaten run in the AFCON finals come to an end when they lost to Tunisia in the 2021 edition and they had recorded four wins in a row.
On the other hand, Equatoria Guinea drew 1-1 with Djibouti in a friendly match on 8 January and they are undefeated in their last 10 games across all competitions.
The National Thunder saw their three-match unbeaten run in the AFCON finals come to an end when they lost to Senegal in the 2021 edition and they had recorded three successive wins.

Wilfried Ndidi and Victor Boniface withdrew from the Nigeria squad and they were replaced by Alhassan Yusuf and Terem Moffi, respectively, ahead of the AFCON finals.
Meanwhile, veteran striker Emilio Nsue will captain an Equatorial Guinea squad with a strong Spanish flavour at the continent tournament.

“It’s a short tournament, a difficult tournament, and a hard tournament," Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro said about facing Equatorial Guinea.
"Equatorial Guinea did better than us in the last tournament and they’re a very good team, but we want to win, we want to put the focus on everything.

The last meeting between the two teams saw the Super Eagles emerge as 3-1 winners over the National Thunder in a 2018 CHAN match in January 2018.
