Minnesota Timberwolves v Oklahoma City Thunder

Target Center
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Sunday, 21 January 2024
Tip-off at 02:00

First plays second in the Western Conference when Minnesota Timberwolves host Oklahoma City Thunder at the Target Center on the morning of Sunday, January 21.

Things are tight in the west as the Thunder and Denver Nuggets are one game behind the Timberwolves, who lead the way with a record of 28-11 - the second-best in the NBA after Boston Celtics.

Chris Finch's team have won just four of their eight games in the New Year, with two of those coming on a home stretch against Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Clippers on January 13 and 15 respectively.

Anthony Edwards scored a game-high 33 points in the 109-105 win over the Clippers, which included 20 in the third quarter alone, while Rudy Gobert added 15 points and 18 rebounds.

"Getting all the rebounds and making sure they don't get finishes at the rim, he was great tonight," Edwards said of Gobert. "He was up, blocking mid-ranges and stuff like that. Defensive Player of the Year, for sure."

The Thunder saw a four-game winning streak come to an end with a 112-105 defeat to Los Angeles Lakers on January 16 - the second time in 24 days they had lost against the Pacific Division outfit.

Mark Daigneault's team had their lowest offensive output in 19 games, with starters Luguentz Dort, Chet Holmgren and Josh Giddey combining for just 28 point amongst them.

Jalen Williams scored 25 points and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 24, but it wasn't enough to prevent another loss at the hands of the Lakers.

"We didn't shoot the ball great. We didn't generate a great rhythm offensively," Daigneault admitted.  "Some of that was them (the Lakers), some of that was us, so it was certainly not our best game, but certainly something to learn from."
