Five plays six in the NBA Eastern Conference when New York Knicks host Miami Heat at Madison Square Garden on the evening of Saturday, January 27.

The Knicks have won their last two match-ups against the Heat and triumphed by just two points in their most recent meeting in New York City on November 25.

Tom Thibodeau's team are just one game back against Cleveland Cavaliers (4th) in the east with a record of 26-17 after winning nine of their 11 games in the New Year.

They cruised to a 126-100 victory against Toronto Raptors on January 21 thanks to a game-high 38 points from Jalen Brunson, while Julius Randle posted 18 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists to register the 14th triple-double of his career.

RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley were making their first appearance at the Garden since being traded to Toronto last month and Randle paid tribute to his former team-mates for shaping his game.

"Those guys are special to me, a special relationship built with them," the Knicks power forward said. "I know they talk [about] how much I mean to them, but they mean a lot to me.

"To be honest, they taught me about leadership, how to carry myself, how to be open, how to be honest. Those were things I didn't necessarily have coming here, vocally.

"I was more of a lead by example, just play hard every night. But those guys brought a different side of me."

Miami are battling it out with Indiana Pacers for the final playoff spot in the east and two have an identical record of 24-19.

Erik Spoelstra's team went on a three-game winning streak earlier this month, but a 105-87 defeat to Orlando Magic on January 22 was their third loss on the spin.

The Heat hit just 37.5 per cent of their shots as they recorded their lowest points total of the season, and Spoelstra admitted their performance was frustrating despite seeing Bam Adebayo score a game-high 22 points.

"Sometimes you're going to have rough patches, but as long as you're generating the right types of looks, you can't be obsessed with the results, even if it's frustrating," Spoelstra said.

"You also have to give Orlando credit. They were very physical tonight and they kind of blew up a lot of our movement."
