What to know about the tournament
This event was established in 1960 as the Palm Springs Golf Classic and it is currently known as The American Express for sponsorship reasons.
Played in mid-winter in the Coachella Valley (greater Palm Springs), the PGA Tour tournament is part of the tour's early season "West Coast Swing."
News
The American Express organisers have announced that the 2024 event will showcase 156 professional golfers and 156 amateurs.
They will play at the PGA West’s Stadium Course (host course) and Nicklaus Tournament Course and La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, California.
The reigning American Express champion Jon Rahm will not defend his title as the Spanish golfer has joined LIV Golf.

Twenty-two of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings, highlighted by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and two-time American Express winner Bill Haas are part of the field.
Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, and Wyndham Clark, who are among the top ten ranked players in the Official World Golf Rankings, will also tee off at the PGA West Pete Dye Stadium Course.
The player who won the most recent tournament (2024 Sony Open in Hawaii) in the 2024 PGA Tour schedule, Grayson Murray, will also compete in La Quinta.
What Is At Stake
The 2024 American Express boasts a purse of $8,3 million and the winner of the event will earn their share of $1,512 million.
The winner of this event earns 500 FedEx Cup points and 60 Official World Golf Ranking points, with the points available based on field strength.
The champion will also enjoy the benefits of winning a PGA Tour event, including a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour and an exemption into next year's Masters, PGA Championship, The Players and The Sentry in 2025.
