Senegal and Morocco will battle to be crowned the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on 18 January.
Head-to-Head record
The two teams have met 31 times across all competitions since their maiden meeting in November 1968 in what was the 1970 FIFA World Cup`qualifier.
Morocco have dominated this rivalry, having registered 18 victories compared to Senegal's seven wins, while six games ended in a draw.
Last Meeting
Morocco claimed a 5-3 win over Senegal on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) semi-final match at the Mandela National Stadium, Kampala, Uganda, in August 2025.
Therefore, Morocco are undefeated in their last two matches against Senegal, having recorded two consecutive victories. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams in the AFCON finals.
Key Players
Brahim Diaz is Morocco's dangerman, having scored the most goals (five) in the ongoing AFCON finals and the Real Madrid attacker could be the player to hand the Atlas Lions their second AFCON title.
Sadio Mane, on the other hand, has been Senegal's most influential player (two goals and three assists) in the tournament and the Al-Nassr attacker has the ability to inspire the Lions of Teranga to glory.
Quotes
“This is an incredible final, pitting the two best teams in Africa over the last three years against each other," Morocco head coach Walid Regragui said ahead of the final against Senegal.
"If, at the start of this AFCON, you had told me we would be playing against Senegal in the final, I would have said, ‘Wow, it’s going to be tough,’ because they are a very good team with a good coach. They are wonderful people.
"I love Senegal. They are like brothers to Moroccans. For me, this is excellent for the AFCON, for the promotion of African football, with this confrontation between the two best teams on the continent,” he continued.
“We need to recover well, because we played 120 minutes, compared to only 90 for Senegal. We have three days of rest to recover properly. We hope to win the final.
“It will be the first time we have faced Senegal in a final. With our supporters, we hope to make history."
