Manchester United have secured the biggest signing thus far ahead of the 2021-22 Premier League season, having agreed a deal in principle with Borussia Dortmund for 21-year-old English winger Jadon Sancho.

The former Watford and Manchester City youth player is set to join the Red Devils after Euro 2020 – subject to a medical assessment and the signing of a contract, both of which are expected to be formalities.

Sancho has established himself as one of the most exciting attacking players in European football, having racked up 49 goals and 60 assists from 125 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund in the past three seasons. He will add further firepower to the Red Devils’ already exciting attacking ranks, which includes Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial.

Sancho gave a showcase of his abilities with a fine performance in England’s 4-0 win over the Ukraine in UEFA Euro 2020 this past weekend, with the 21-year-old revealing that he is already excited about the prospect of playing for United in the Premier League.

“Yeah, Luke [Shaw] is a great lad. I always have a good relationship with him, Marcus [Rashford] and Harry [Maguire] so it’s going to be fun [at United],” said Sancho.

United left-back Shaw, who provided two assists in the England win, believes his new Rev Devils teammate will add something special to the mix at Old Trafford.

“He hasn’t had too much game time, he’s obviously been, not disappointed but wanting to play like everyone else,” said Shaw of the young winger. “He’s kept his head down, he’s kept working hard and I feel like he took his chance.

“He showed people why we’re buying him and of course, even though I was on the pitch, I was really impressed with his performance. I’m obviously looking forward to him becoming a Manchester United player and I will keep getting on to him to keep those high standards up.”

The creativity, pace and extra attacking edge Sancho will bring to United could be enough to tip Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team into title contention, as they look to challenge Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool for the top honour in the 2021-22 Premier League season.
