Nick Kyrgios will be targeting his first-ever Grand Slam final when he takes on No.2 seed Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of
Wimbledon on Friday, July 8.
The Australian has already surpassed his best-ever showing on the London grass by beating Cristian Garin in straight sets (6-4, 6-3, 7-6) in the quarter-finals.
Kyrgios had reached the last eight once before, in 2014, but failed to make it beyond the fourth round in the subsequent six years.
The 27-year-old hasn't managed to qualify for an ATP Tour final in 2022, having lost in the semis on three occasions, while he was beaten by Nadal in the quarters at Indian Wells.
They have crossed paths at Wimbledon twice before, with Kyrgios having caused a major upset when he eliminated the Spaniard in the fourth round in 2014, while Nadal came out on top in the second round five years later.
Kyrgios admitted he never thought he'd be here at this stage of his career, but expressed pride in what he's achieved, having become the first unseeded and lowest-ranked man to make it to the last four since 2008.
"I thought my ship had sailed," he confessed. "Obviously, I didn't go about things great early in my career and may have wasted that little window. But just really proud of the way I've just come back out here."
