Charles Leclerc will be looking to bounce back when he competes in the Hungarian Grand Prix after enduring a disheartening race in France.

The Ferrari driver could not finish last year's Hungarian Grand Prix as he was forced to retire after a collision having started seventh on the grid.

Leclerc's hopes of catching his rival Max Verstappen in the battle for the 2022 Formula One world title took a knock as he was forced to retire from the French Grand Prix on July 24.

The 2017 FIA Formula 2 Championship retired while leading and looking on course to secure his fourth win of the season, when he crashed at turn 11 on lap 18.

The French Grand Prix was won by Verstappen of Red Bull Racing-RBPT, while the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished second and third respectively.

Verstappen is still sitting at the top of the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings and his teammate Sergio Perez is placed third on the table.

Leclerc remains second in the standings and he will revive his hopes of winning the Formula One world title if he wins the Hungarian Grand Prix.

"I think I am performing at the highest level of my career, but if I keep doing these mistakes then it is pointless to perform at a very high level. I am losing too many points," Leclerc said after the French GP.

"I think seven at Imola, 25 here — because honestly we probably were the strongest car on track today — so if we lose the championship by 32 points at the end of the season, I will know where they are coming from. It's unacceptable. I just need to get on top of those things."

"I’m very disappointed. This is not the outcome that I wanted today, as we had the pace to win. I made a mistake and paid the price for it. Now I will head home to reset before the next race in Hungary, where I will give it my all once again."

Red Bull Racing-RBPT are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Ferrari and Mercedes respectively.
