World No. 2 Novak Djokovic will be looking to tie Roger Federer's record for most titles at the
2023 Wimbledon Championships.
The Serbian great equalled Pete Sampras' haul of seven wins when he beat Nick Kyrgios 4–6, 6–3, 6–4, 7–6 in the 2022 final to be crowned champion for the fourth year running.
Djokovic added another feather to his cap last month after winning the French Open for the third time to claim the 23rd Grand Slam of his career, surpassing long-standing rival Rafael Nadal (22).
The 36-year-old, who also won the 2023 Australian Open, is seeking his fourth ATP Tour triumph of the year, having emerged victorious at the Adelaide International 1.
Djokovic kicked off his Wimbledon title defence with a 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 victory over Pedro Cachin before seeing off Jordan Thompson (6-3, 7-6, 7-5) to set up a clash with Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round.
The No. 2 seed is relishing the chance to face his old rival again, describing the meeting as a "duel of the veterans of the tour".
"I like Stan a lot. He's a great person and really inspirational what he's doing at his age. He's almost 40 and he still keeps going strong, that's something not many people can do," Djokovic said.
"We can't forget he's a three-time Grand Slam champion, Davis Cup winner and also Olympic gold. He's had a fantastic career. We haven't faced in quite some time. It will be the duel of the veterans of the tour."
