Joel Embiid rose to become the best player in the
National Basketball Association (NBA) during the 2022/23 season.
Breaking And Setting Records
In November 2022, Embiid became the first player in NBA history with 50 points, 10 boards, five assists, and five blocks in a game since blocks became an official stat in the 1973/74 season.
The Cameroonian superstar was awarded the Eastern Conference Player of the Month award for December 2022 - the fifth of his career, breaking a tie with Allen Iverson for the most such honors in 76ers franchise history.
In April 2023, Embiid was named the NBA scoring champion, averaging 33.1 points per game, doing so for the second straight season.
MVP Accolade
Nicknamed himself "the Process" in response to a refrain from 76ers fans during the Sam Hinkie era to "trust the process, Embiid won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award in May 2023.
The 29-year-old center became the first Cameroonian to win the award and also became the fifth 76ers player ever to capture league MVP honours.
The Process joined Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, Allen Iverson, and Moses Malone.

"It's hard to win this league; it's hard to be successful in this league. There's a reason why these are the best basketball players in the world," Embiid said after winning the MVP award.
"And to be sitting here and feel like I won something as far as the Most Valuable Player is great. But then again, it's also part of my story because I've always felt like I was a role model -- especially to my Cameroonian people and my African people -- and I feel like, just looking at my story, they can look at it and be like, 'Wow, he did it.'
"Probably the probability of someone like me, starting playing basketball at 15, to get the chance to be the MVP of the league is, I'd say, probably negative zero. ... We don't have a lot of opportunities back in Africa in general to get to this point," he added.
"But improbable doesn't mean impossible, and you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. As long as you believe in it, and you know, keep working hard, anything can happen."
